Exit Lizzie, Enter Sam

Well, I spoke too soon yesterday about Lizzie being a sweetie. As the night went on, what started as occaisional scrapping and bickering turned into all out war and Lizzie became more and more aggressive until poor Luka was absolutely terrified of her. I finally had to remove Lizzie from the aquarium and put her in the little carrier cage because I was afraid she might actually injure Luka. She got so aggressive that she even attacked my hand when I reached in the cage to put foot in their bowl. I had to use a cup to scoop her out when I removed her from the cage to keep from getting bitten again.

I barely got any sleep last night and as soon as the pet store opened this morning, I called to see if I could return Lizzie. They didn’t accept returns but said I could exchange her for another hamster if she was causing too much trouble. I immediately put her back in the box I brought her home in, put Luka in the carrier cage and took them both back to the pet shop. I didn’t return Luka. I just wanted to take her with me so I could see how she reacted to the other hamsters. I wanted to make sure I got one she would get along with this time.

It took a few tries but we finally found a little sweetie that seemed to hit it off with Luka. Of course, it had to end up being a male. He’s all black with just a touch of white on his chest and he’s as sweet and loveable as Luka. I named him Sam. They get along really well and snuggled together in the carrier cage all the way home and have been getting along great all afternoon. Now I have my happy little couple. Unfortunately, or fortunately depending on how you look at it, I’ll probably end up with baby hamsters sooner or later. I don’t think I’ll mind. As long as they turn out sweet and loveable like their parents, that is.

I don’t have any pictures of Sam yet but I’ll post some as soon as I take them. I’m sure when you see him, you’ll think he’s as adorable as I do. My mom even likes him and she HATES hamsters. They look too much like mice and she’s scared to death of those.

Anyway, it’s my birthday so I’m going to go enjoy the rest of my day. See you all later!
