This is my new Siberian Dwarf Hamster. I just got her today and she is so tiny and cute. As you can see by the picture, she barely fits in part of my hand and I have pretty small hands. She absolutely loves to be handled and cuddled, which is why I picked her. When I was standing at the cage looking at the dozens and dozens of hamsters running around, she’s the one who came over to me and stood up on her hind legs to look at me. When I put my hand in the cage, she hopped right into it and I knew she was my girl. I had to take her home right then and there. There was no way I could wait until my birthday on Friday to go back and get her. If I left her there, someone else would have taken her for sure.
On friday, I’m going to go back and get the rest of the stuff I need to fix her aquarium up really nice. Right now she just has the basics, food, water in a little bowl, and a floor covering. I’ve got to get her a water bottle, better floor covering, a hamster wheel, a hamster ball for running around on the floor, more food, and, of course, lots of hamster treats and toys. She’s going to be one spoiled and happy hamster. I may get another hamster, too, if I can find one as sweet and friendly as she is. I haven’t decided yet though.
I chose the name Luka because I frequently read incogblogo, written by a girl named Luka. I’ve loved her name ever since the first time I saw it. It has a musical quality to it that just sticks with me. When I was trying to think of a name for my hamster, that name kept popping into my head and nothing else seemed right, so I chose Luka. I hope she won’t be offended by a stranger naming a hamster after her. It’s honestly a compliment. I just really like her name. She has a good blog, too.
Anyway, I am sooooo happy and really glad I got my Luka. I’ve been smiling all day. I already love her as much as if I’d had her for years. She’s an excellent addition to my family.
