I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, And in His word I do hope. Psalm 130:5
Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. 1 Peter 5:6-7
One of the most difficult challenges of faith is learning to trust completely in God. It’s human nature to want to be independent and self-sufficient, to want to take care of ourselves and control our own lives. Faith challenges us to let go of that control and turn it over to God, to let things happen according to His will and His timing. It’s not an easy thing to do, especially when life isn’t going the way you expected or wanted it to. You pray and pray, wondering when or if God is ever going to answer. Does He even hear you? The answer is Yes, He does hear you and He does answer, but sometimes His answer is for you to be patient, to wait on Him, to trust in His timing.
I’ve heard that answer many times in my life. I’ve spent a lot of time waiting and I can honestly say it does not get any easier. For the last year, I’ve been waiting, sometimes patiently, sometimes in deep frustration, for God to answer a few very important prayers concerning issues in my life. This past weekend, He finally answered one of them in a dramatic, unmistakeable way. It was very clear to me that He was telling me “Do not worry. I am here and I am in control. I will take care of you.” His presence at that moment in my life was so real, I could almost feel Him in the room with me, almost hear His voice in my ears. It was such a powerful confirmation of my faith. I was overwhelmed by it.
I still have one very important prayer that has yet to be answered concerning the issue of my living arrangements, which are being forced to change within the next three to four weeks. As time gets shorter and shorter, it gets harder and harder not to worry. But, I have chosen to hold on to my faith, to trust in God. I know He is there and He won’t let me fall. When His timing is right, the answer will be there and as soon as it arrives, I will understand exactly how right it was to wait. That’s always the way it is with God. He knows, we don’t. Trust in Him and He won’t let you go wrong.
But as for me, I trust in You, O LORD; I say, “You are my God.” My times are in Your hand; Psalm 31:14-15
